NADEEM HASNAIN
Nadeem Hasnain is Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Lucknow. Lucknow (India) He is also an Editor of The Eastern Anthropologist and heads a multi disciplinary research organization, Centre for Social Action and Development Lucknow. devoted to research and advocacy of the weaker sections of Indian society and elsewhere.
He has published a number of books and research papers. He has lectured at some of the prestigious universities in India and USA. He has also participated and presented papers in reputed academic bodies including American Sociological Association (PEWS Conference), American Council for the Study of Islamic Societies, and New York Conference of Asian Studies.
Some of his books such as Tribal India and Indian Anthropology are also available in several Indian languages and serving as required/recommended texts in many universities in India and abroad. Two of his books- Bonded Forever and Shias and Shia Islam in India: A Study tn Society and Culture have been acknowledged as seminal contributions. Among his most recent publications are three books edited by him - Islam and Muslim Communities in South Asia, Aspects of Islam and Muslim Societies and Beyond Textual Islam. His latest book Indian Society and Culture : Continuity and Change is a popular reading among the students of Indian Society.
A well-known teacher researcher and activist, he is also involved with mass media writing in popular magazines and newspapers and regularly participates in panel discussions on TV channels.
Formerly a Fulbright Scholar in Residence (SIR), he has also been visiting Professor at St. Lawrence University, New York, and Pro Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha (Maharashtra)
